Marilyn Monroe was an avid reader. Apart from the plethora of scripts she had to read, she would often read the scholars for fun. An owner of more than 400 books her favorites were James Joyce, Truman Capote, and Charles Sandburg. No doubt determined to prove her intellect overshadowed by her beauty, Marilyn would write poetry and read as often as she could. In her book Fragments, you can see Marilyn’s love affair with the written word. She would later use her fame to meet her favorite authors, and later married one of her favorites- Arthur Miller-who at one time commented on how well she fit in with his intellectual circle of literary friends.
Settling into the fall season, take a page from Marilyn’s book and indulge in a bit of reading.
